New Botox treatment offered to healthcare establishments and private patients

The UK’s leading independent provider of nerve conduction studies tests, Bespoke Healthcare* has launched a new service for chronic migraine sufferers which will utilise the newly approved Botulinum toxin type A treatment.

Botulinum toxin type A – more commonly known as Botox – was recently approved as a preventative treatment by UK drug regulators, and the company has become one of the first to offer a service to both healthcare establishments and private patients.

The drug approval came after a trial of more than 1,300 patients which showed success in reducing the frequency of headaches.

Sufferers noticed a positive reaction to the treatment after one week and by the end of year one, nearly 70% of those treated with Botulinum toxin type A had a 50% reduction in the number of migraines compared with before the trial.

Clinical criteria states patients need to have experienced headaches for 15 or more days a month, with migraines on at least eight of these days.  The treatment is then delivered as a number of small injections of Botulinum toxin type A into the scalp and neck every three months.
