Bespoke Healthcare Holds Clinics in Nepal to help Epileptic Patients
Posted on May 04 2011

Specialist Consultants from Bespoke Healthcare have undertaken a two week trek to remote hospitals in Nepal to treat 100 children and adults suffering from epilepsy.

Dr Steven Coates and Professor Patterson set-up base in Dhulikel Hospital, about 30km from the capital of Nepal, and also visited remote outreach clinics in the mountains providing diagnostics and medication.

A machine and consumables were supplied free-of-charge by Bespoke Healthcare, the leading independent provider of nerve conduction studies for public and private hospitals throughout the UK.

Dr Coates said: “It was a humbling experience.  These were very basic clinics with a single bed that doubled as an operating theatre and a biochemistry laboratory set on top of a table.

“Bespoke Healthcare will continue to support this worthwhile epilepsy service in Nepal and educate the local doctors so that they will be able to continue to provide quality treatment.”

Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world with large swathes of the population living in the mountains, and many rural people have to travel miles by foot to reach health centres and schools.
